Ever since I read Phil Knight's Shoe Dog, I have been more committed to do my morning runs despite of getting up early. Today, I saw a couple of runners wearing non-running shoes. It reminded me so much of one of Bowerman's philosophies, that it does not matter what brand you wear as long as you have the spirit to run. I cannot remember fully what he said in the book but that was at least the essence. It is in his culture to sell that "spirit" to people. To let them run, compete with their selves and to bring out their own victory. The brand was more than a brand itself, it was a spirit, a passion or some sort. Maybe that was why it was Nike to begin with, even though it calling came from a dream, to continue to give their best out there in whatever sport whether it is running, basketball, etc, to earn that victory of one's self. He believes that we are all capable of being athletes since we have a body. We can be built, not just born to be one.
